Case Study 3 – Delivery of a Literacy/Numeracy Programme
Delivered to a group of learners in the 16-24 age bracket. Many of these learners had been excluded from school or left due to teenage pregnancy. The programme has been running for 20-months and during this time the learners have achieved a variety of qualifications including Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2 in Literacy & Numeracy. The tutor engaged these learners by taking time to listen to their needs, by being there to support without judgement and treating them as individuals with individual needs. These learners have progressed to a stage whereby they recently produced a show ‘Scouserella’ produced by them using the skills learned in literacy and numeracy programme. This production was a resounding success for the centre and people from the area came to see it. Another strand from this project has been a number of learners from the project have gone on to open a café called Deli 63 at the centre and are sustaining their own employment. Deli63 owners work in collaboration with Help the Aged to ensure that regular customers are available. Deli63 is being used as a flagship to other young people in the area. The next stage for these learners is to take them into a volunteering role to enable them to make progressive steps to employment.
What the Client Says: “We are so happy with the service provided by Specialist Training. They are professional and we have a wonderful service from them. They are flexible and really build empathy with our young people. Their staff are wonderful and they engage with the learners and treat them as individuals. We would recommend them to anyone. Our relationship is expanding and currently we are working with them on a joint bid to support young people to develop them in a number of areas from Skills for Life, Employability and Health”.

Case Study 4 – Delivery of Routes into Work Programme
A programme for young people aged 16-24 who had no formal qualifications or had not been in employment. As part of the project we devised programmes specifically for the Call Centre and Health & Social Care sectors. Many of the learners have come from the volunteer sector and have used this experience to enable them to gain paid employment. On the Health & Social Care sector we achieved 100% employment for learners. Our trainer personally ensured that all learners had the relevant attributes to enable them to be employed in the sector. As well as arranging CRB checks and that they were all registered with a number of relevant agencies to ensure that they would gain employment, which they did. Quotes from Learners at the end of the programme included “you’ve changed my life”, “no one has ever believed in me”, “there’s no one in my family who works they are looking at me differently because I have the ability to change my life and I want to do something”. “I don’t want to be like them and spend all my life on benefits”. “I want something different for my children”.
What the Client Says: “Extremely professional, flexible, helpful and supportive. We have worked in partnership on various programmes including ECDL, Routes Into Work and Apprenticeships. I would not hesitate to recommend Specialist Training”.
